Melissa Breen carried on her amazing form from Stawell the week before running 2 new personal bests and taking the prestigous sprint double at the Australian Championships in Melbourne.

Breen dominated the 100m in the final to win in a time of 11.41 (0,5w) but it was her semi final performance that made people really stand up and take notice. Exploding from the blocks Melissa crossed the line in a new personal best time of 11.31 (1.4w).

“To run a personal best at the National championships is very special” Breen explained. “It has been a few years in the making but it is certainly worth the wait.”

Breen wasn’t done though and on the final day she shocked many people again by coming out in the 200m and running another huge personal best with a time of 23.30 (-0.3w).

“To run an Olympic “B” qualifier in the 200m and into a headwind is extremely exciting and shows me just how the technical areas I have been working on with Matty is working.”

In other squad results Mowen Boino (PNG) ran superbly in the heats of the 400m Hurdles to record his second fastest time ever. The 32 year old and 3 time Olympian ran 50.67 to state a claim to his federation to again select him to represent PNG at the London Games. In the final he ran a positive race to lead until the last hurdle. Unfortunately he didn’t comeof the hurdle well and was overtaken in the shadows of the line by Tristan Thomas of the AIS.

Other athletes to compete at the nationals included Ollie Wurm (200m and 400m) and Brandan Galic (100m)
